My goal is to make for you a fine bamboo fly rod that you will love to both own and fish. I want my customers to be involved with as much of the process as possible, so we can craft a rod that fits exactly how and where you like to fish. Working together, we will customize the rod to be as functional as it is beautiful; as a rod’s taper, it’s length, the number of sections, and the weight of the line it takes determines how each rod will cast and fish. I invite you to stop by the shop to see the work in progress… from splitting and straightening strips, heat treating, hand planing, making the rod’s ferrule and ferrule plug, selecting the wood and machining nickel-silver hardware for the reel seat, choosing the color of the silk wraps, sewing the rod’s protective cloth bag, right down to holding the grip while it is still mounted on the lathe for the perfect custom fit for your hand. And, if you can’t stop by, I’ll send you pictures of every step along the way. If a more hands on approach is your style, let’s discuss building your rod together in a one on one class setting. A typical rod takes over 80 hours of work spread over a two-month period to complete. Pricing starts at around $1500.00. I am more than happy to provide references.
